South Carolina or Tennessee changes the records office

Anderson County criminal records require a state and a court division. In South Carolina, the Clerk of Court maintains General Sessions criminal files. In Tennessee, the Circuit Court Clerk’s services cover Circuit/Criminal and separate General Sessions branches. These are non-exhaustive Anderson County examples; do not transfer one state’s fees, docket meaning or copy procedure to another county with the same name.

For South Carolina General Sessions, follow Case Records search from the county Clerk of Court page and select the appropriate Anderson criminal case. For the filed document, contact the clerk at 864-260-4053. The office is at 100 South Main Street, Anderson, SC 29624; its mailing address is P.O. Box 8002, Anderson, SC 29622. Provide the defendant, case number and the particular judgment, sentencing order or other filing required.

South Carolina summary and traffic files need their own court

A General Sessions result is not a search of all lower-court proceedings. Anderson’s magistrates generally handle criminal and traffic matters carrying no more than a $500 fine and/or 30 days in jail, with statutory exceptions and additional assessments. Use the court named on the citation or order to locate the correct Summary Court record.

The county’s Central Traffic Court handles cases initiated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, county sheriff and State Transport Police. It is at 2404 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621; call 864-260-4156 or 864-260-4055. Other magistrate branches have their own contacts and current closure notices. Confirm the particular branch before traveling, rather than assuming all summary records are available at the General Sessions counter.

Tennessee: choose Clinton, Oak Ridge or Criminal Court

1. Use Anderson County’s official Docket Search page.
2. Choose General Sessions Division I for Clinton or Division II for Oak Ridge when that is the court on the case.
3. Use the Circuit / Criminal Court option for a proceeding in that branch.
4. Keep the case identifier and contact the specific court about a docket question; a hearing listing does not by itself establish the charge’s final disposition.

The Circuit Court Clerk preserves the underlying civil and criminal case records as well as dockets. Its main number is 865-463-6821. The current clerk page and 2026 fee sheet give 100 N. Main Street, Suite/Room 301, Clinton, TN 37716; an older docket-page footer says Suite 309. Call the main office to confirm the counter location if visiting or sending a time-sensitive request.

Tennessee: specify the copy and obtain a case-specific total

The 2026 Circuit fee sheet linked from the Circuit and Criminal Court page lists copies at $0.50 per page and certification with seal at $5. It says personal checks are not accepted and lists cash, credit/debit cards, money orders and cashier’s checks. Identify the branch and document when asking staff to confirm the total and payment route; a civil filing fee is not a criminal-record copy charge.

For a useful request, include the defendant’s name, case number if known, approximate filing or hearing date, document title, number of copies, and whether the recipient requires a certified version. Ask how that format can be delivered and when the office expects to fulfill it. The reviewed county pages do not establish a fixed turnaround for every criminal-file request, so retain the clerk’s actual response rather than relying on an assumed deadline.

A state background check is a separate purchase

For South Carolina statewide criminal-history information, SLED CATCH is a name-based search of South Carolina records, not national history, wanted-person information or the sex-offender registry. The base fee is $25 and is nonrefundable. Its July 1, 2026 notice lists a $1.43 online service fee, while older terms on the page still mention a $1 convenience charge. Review the actual checkout total or ask SLED at 803-896-1443 before paying.

For a mailed SLED check, complete the Criminal Record Check form with the full name, aliases or maiden names and date of birth. Include acceptable payment and a self-addressed stamped envelope to SLED Records Department, P.O. Box 21398, Columbia, SC 29221-1398. The form accepts business, certified or cashier’s checks and money orders payable to SLED, not personal checks or cash. State explicitly if notarized or certified results are needed.

Tennessee’s TBI public adult-history check costs $29, requires no fingerprints and can be requested online or by mail; a valid email address is required for electronic results. TORIS explains that this is a nonrefundable Tennessee-only name search and does not include aliases. That report has a different scope from an Anderson court file and cannot replace a particular court’s certified order.

Turn a docket lead into a supported result

Compare available identifiers before connecting a case to a person. Then locate the order resolving the charge, and check whether the docket reflects a pending proceeding, dismissal, conviction or later action. Request the document if an abbreviated entry is unclear. A name match, arrest or scheduled hearing should not be described as proof of the final outcome.

If the court cannot provide a file, ask whether the reason is a different custodian, unavailable older material or an access restriction, and retain that explanation. A missing result is not a clean-record certificate. For an inaccurate court entry, identify the exact case and discrepancy to its clerk; for a disputed SLED or TBI report, use that agency’s own records contact and supporting court evidence. Keep the state, court division and document date beside your conclusion.
